Moved from War Diary, 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, BEF - Sep 1939 to Jun 1940

    Hi,

I am new to this forum and am investigating my family tree and the part my family had in the second world war. My Grandad , who unfortunately died in 2005 was in the Grendadier Guards his name was Ronald Patrick Dryden, his brother was Charles Albert George Dryden who died as in the above posts in May 1940, his grave is also pictured, we have been there. DOes anyone have any information about what happened on and around this day and maybe any that include my Grandad. He always said he was in same movement as his brother and was present when he died, although he did not know of this fact until after they had reached destination. He was then sent home to tell his parents.

Thanks for any information you can help me with.

    Kay

Hi Kay and welcome to the forum.

I've already attached copy of the Battalion war diary in post 14. This is what was written up on or shortly after the time by the Battalion, and is the best that I can offer you in respect of an account of that day.

If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend that you apply for copy service records for both your grandfather and you granduncle. These will give full dates and details of where they served and when they enlisted etc. For your g. uncle you will only require a copy of his CWGC certificate but you will need a copy of your grandfather's death certificate in order to apply for his records.

They might also be able to help you with regards any personal accounts that may have been filed in their archives ... worth asking.

Would you mind sharing any photos you have of your relatives? It's always to be able to put a face to a name.

    Regards
    Diane

Thank you very much for your help! I am very early on my searches, so have not tried the above, so it is of great help.

I do have photos of both my Grandad and his brother seperately and together, I will scan and post these in the next few days.
