A place to post some images, links etc. to 24th Lancers related collections and insignia...owned and seen (i.e. as in the drift from the topic "Tankies from Uniform" here.. Tankies from uniform?

    All the best,

    Rm.

Ps. for me one of the chuckles I had was when I saw someone was selling 24th Lancer hoodies... Disbanded Regiments, 24Th Lancers Clothing

..but I don't think it's an authentic relic from the 40's somehow ;)

At least they got the colours broadly correct...except for the background which should be French Grey.

    Hum - French Grey: :)
What is the colour "french grey" - Google Search

"Soothes and calms. French Gray is really much more green than grey. It is perfect for exterior woodwork, a particular favorite for front doors in more matt Exterior Eggshell, or garden furniture where it sits seamlessly amongst greenery."

French Grey is the background colour used on the cover of None Had Lances. You learn all sorts of useless information sometimes!.....

I actually bought one of these to put on a plaque I made to take to Normandy last year they are just as badly made as they look on the photos in fact I think the sample they use in the picture is better then the one I got. I just cut off the top of mine and ground down the bottom so I ended up with a completely round version which came out OK.
What about the 24th lancers tea mugs? I'm sure every soldier in Normandy drank out of them but why do they use the worse looking image of the cap badges.? With the dodgy looking crown and iffy fonts. The hoodie badge is probably the worst I've seen. tho.
I'll upload a couple of relevant pics later this week unless I can find them on my phone/cloud sooner

    Thanks Shaun,

It's nice to know who's got what, and what people have seen, variously, about.

I'm a bit of a fan of the style set on this page: 9th/12th Royal Lancers (PoW’s) – The Royal Lancers Regimental Association

    i.e. [IMG]

    And...

With the 50p there also, for scale, and with prices that don't much surpass that!!!! Would be nice to see them carrying some 24th L designs too - perhaps one day, and I doubt it would be difficult for them to use the most handsome of designs...

    Thanks Rm
ive not seen a collar badge in the flesh so to speak they are significantly smaller then a cap badge the only other time I've seen a pic of comparison is on an old ww2 photo of one of the 24L officers. But this shows much clearer.

This is my button belt I couldn't resist buying the odd button or two the 25mm are all gaunt but oddly I think all the 19mm are pitt & Co. The cap badge at the top was one my nanna have me years ago so safe to assume it was probably one of my grandads. The slider has been clipped to about half which I was told might have made it more comfortable to wear with a headset as they could dig in? Although most the buttons are restrikes they do Polish up nice and shiny so look nice. I also noticed on the back of most of the 25mm buttons there is a fair bit of wear to the point the gaunt lettering has almost rubbed off. Brass isn't the softest of metals I often had to work with it. It's as if the buttons have had some kind of use rather then like mine just sitting on a belt strap or at least they have been well handled but the faces are reasonably intact. So I can only guess they had been on something like fabric that has gently worn them down.

Just a couple of restrikes but I was surprised to find someone had gone to the trouble of making one out of brass the r/h one slightly smaller then standard and not the worst copy I've seen shame about the voids in the numerals being filled in. Brought it for about £4

A plaque I made in my spare time last year to take over to Normandy and original just leave by the side of a road somewhere like. . Point 103 or around Tilly.( Just for it to be cleared up by the local council at some point apparently they are quite good at it as they have had a lot of practice)
But thanks to Steve and Stephane Jacquet its now in the Tilly Sur seulles war museum.
I altered it just slightly to this photo by adding small brass 1944 numbers.
To give a scale the brass plaques are 4"x2" so it was roughly 12" high by 10"?

A plaque that did get left near to Le Parc de Boislonde last year this has the dodgy horse buckle on it that I cut down and repolished which came out a lot better but they are pretty terrible.

The badge on the button belt appears to be genuine Gaunt badge with cut down slider.

Reference the buttons with 'worn' G and T on Gaunt: this was intentional and indicates they are 1970s restrikes made by Gaunt for the collectors market. Although Marcus may correct me, I think I'm correct in saying that the restrikes are restricted to the 25mm buttons. The Pitt buttons will all be genuine. Genuine 25mm Gaunt buttons also exist but the word Gaunt is fully impressed on the reverse of the button.

Thanks Steve this does make sense I couldn't understand how they could have been so worn without some serious wear and tear which they really should not have received unless someone was wearing them even tho I knowingly bought them as restrikes. Even then it would have taken years to wear them down this much. A couple of them are quite unworn tho. It must be hard to tell a genuine button from a repo the badges are hard enough sometimes.
