Does anyone know the whereabouts of the 143rd Field Ambulance in May 1940 and if there is a War Diary for the unit. Any help will be appreciated.

143 Field Ambulance was part of 48th Infantry Division and should have been mainly supporting 143 Brigade which contained 1 Ox and Bucks and 7 and 8 Royal Warwicks infantry battalions. Follow their whereabouts and you won't be far out. However if you want exact loactions this can be found in the units war diaries which will be in the WO 177 series.

    Edit

Here's the diary details at Kew

    WO 177/723 143 Field Ambulance 1939 Sept.- 1940 Dec.

Hi there, my grandfather was an ambulance driver for the 143rd Field Ambulance. He was good friends with Major E R Stanford of the RAMC 143rd Field Ambulance. I believe my grandfather was in the RASC, but I have no idea what regiment etc.... how would i find this out? I'm trying to retrace his steps back in the UK once he was evacuated at Dunkirk with 143rd on 1st June 1940.

    Any ideas guys?

    Thank you.
