The Nazi regime recruited and got the incompetence they deserved, but I was reading recently an article, probably related to the 1940 western campaign, that Hitler (or Germany) actually planned a long war by ramping up slowly. That is, they did not want to "burn-out" the German people on the war too soon, as they believed happened in WWI. If true. it seems paranoia runs to the highest levels in a totalitarian state.

The Kreigsmarine were building a Navy to fight a war but was expecting it to come much later around 1942 I believe.
Similar to the Italians modernisation and equiping programs for their forces being due for fruition around the same time (42/43).

Hitler pushed his luck in not really expecting France and Britain to declare war in 1939 (neither of those countrys was ready either).

    Hi, Leccy,

Surely you mean the Italians were ramping up for 45/46; when the war was over!

Za, I like the wide lapels, reminds me of my shirt collars in the early '70s. Trouble is with fashionable, designer kit, it looks shit a few years down the line; like when you look at your wedding photos after 10 or 20 years, you think, "I wouldn't be seen dead in that now"; although, perhaps a lot of German soldats are! (come to think of it, I was married in my No. 2s, the're a bit like sack cloth, sewn up with baler twine, still it made the wife look great, fandabydozy).

The Panther, well you've got me there, mmmm, my favourite. Beautiful lines. Steel sex and gorgeous colours. Can't say more than that; probably can't get shallower than that either; as Fleetwood Mac say; oh, well.

Presumably the same film as that previously linked to above...

...it starts off mute (or with "lost" sound) and then in the 2nd bit, at about 3m20s sound cuts in.

In the first part there seem to be quite a few people just hitting things with hammers...

Don't know if this was the same video on the original post as that doesn't work but came across this today. The largest ww2 tank factory in nazi Germany, well actually it was in Austria.

No matter how advanced German tank production had become - credits belong to the inventor:
