This may or may not be relevant however I do have trouble copying and pasting from time to time.

There are some sites I am unable to paste from but paste to word then across to here. Seems that option does not work for you.

I use this approach: When you right click and it does not work the first time, move the pointer a little closer to where you need to insert and then right click again and the paste option usually appears for me on the second attempt.

    Geoff,

I've noticed this too with Firefox. My cursor has to be on the same line as the point (flashing vertical line) where you wish to paste and not somewhere else in the box. Otherwise I don't get a paste option in the right click menu. I didn't want to mention it as I thought it might be obvious and probably doesn't account for problems with Internet Explorer.

    Regards ...

Tried the various hints and tips offered, but to no avail. I've obviously angered a God of the IT deity, which is one of the worst kind I believe ;>

Ctrl+v to paste really should work across all browsers. It's a standard that hasn't been broken.

What happens if you try to use the clipboard 'paste' icon clipboard.jpg at top of the reply box ?

Can you drag highlighted text from another website into the reply box ?
Keep the text highlighted then holding left mousebutton down drag the text into the reply box.

    Hi Adam and Owen,

None of the options worked for me I now have a second browser (Chrome) in reserve just for visiting forums? Not sure if anyone else managed a workable solution but I gave up trying ages ago.

    Stupid, isn't it.
We'd leap to fix this basic thing if we could - there's a disconnect between what the software producers think works and what actually does. (sounds a bit like politics...)

Excuse my non IT Geeky terminology

I have tried to copy and paste from a Excel sheet and a Word document into the Private Message window and it doesn't work.

When I right click the mouse I get the paste option and nothing happens when I click on it. Has the forum upgrade affected this? I can still do it on another forum.

    Cheers

Have sent you a pm which was sent from my iPad, using copy & paste with no problems at all.

The problem, I think, is at your end.

    Hi,
Hope this isn't going slightly off-topic, but my working experience brought me into contact with the I.T. Gods and their acolytes. One of them would return to the temple and announce that he had been distracted from his devotions to attend a picnic; not bad, you might say, but he mean't P.I.C.N.I.C ... Problem In Chair, Not In Computer.
It's never a picnic for us mere mortals

Just been to two other forums (ARRSE and RWF) and cut and paste works there. I even cut and pasted the above via the 'code' icon but I still can't do it straight in the message window.

I had a snoop around the net after my original post; the suggestion was there's an issue with later versions on IE that causes the copy/paste problem. I'm not smart enough to understand why it works on some forums and not others, but it did reassure me that I wasn't being a total idiot!

So how do I go back to the old one when it worked?

You can go back but I tried that and every time the IE systems updates you to the latest version. Best to change browser at the end of the day.

I am swearing right now. The people that make this crap should allow you not to change, I hate change, especially when it is forced on me. If I had my way......I'd still be posting on my ZX-81

    Hi,

    I'm new to this forum.

When attempting to post a new topic, how can I paste text from MS Windows 8/Notepad ?

I have tried right-click and Paste, and all the Paste icons. Nothing seems to work.

Ctrl+V is your best bet, Dave.

Ongoing issue with the forum software and certain browser combinations.
There's a thread or four about it. Will merge when I find 'em.
