    MOOK WAR CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Limburg

    • Location Information: The village of Mook is in the east of the Netherlands, approx 11kms south east of the city of Nijmegen. From the A73 motorway NIJMEGEN to VENLO take exit 3 (Afrit 3) MALDEN / GROESBEEK / MOOK / HEUMEN / OVERASSELT. Follow signs for N271 MOOK. Continue through the village of MOLENHOEK and in the village of MOOK turn left at the roundabout (CWGC sign for MOOK WAR CEMETERY) onto the GROESBEEKSEWEG. The cemetery is approx 400m on the left. The cemetery address is:- Groesbeekseweg 6585 Mook Netherlands GPS Location is:- N 51 45 14 E 05 53 10
    • Historical Information: The village was entered by parachutists of the 82nd U.S. Airborne Division on 17th September, 1944; fighting continued in and around the village for four or five days until British armoured troops completed its liberation. The men buried in this cemetery died for the most part either during the fighting in the vicinity in September and October 1944, or at the time of the advance into Germany in February 1945; a few were casualties during the intervening period of artillery and patrol activity. There are now 311, 1939-1945 Commonwealth war casualties commemorated in this site, of these 15 are unidentified. Also commemorated here are 11 Foreign National casualties.

    BERGEN-OP-ZOOM WAR CEMETERY

    • Location Information: Bergen-op-Zoom is a town in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant, 40 kilometres north-west of Antwerp (Belgium). Bergen-op-Zoom War Cemetery and Bergen-op-Zoom Canadian War Cemetery are almost next to one another, 3 kilometres east of the town centre, on a road named Ruytershoveweg, which runs parallel with the A58 Bergen-op-Zoom to Roosendaal motorway. The cemeteries can be reached from the motorway by taking the Bergen-op-Zoom exit, which leads on to Rooseveltlaan. At the first crossroads the cemeteries are signposted to the right. There is a further signposted right turn after 1 kilometre, and the cemeteries are 2 kilometres along this road on the left-hand side.

    • History Information: Bergen-op-Zoom War Cemetery contains 1,284 Commonwealth burials and commemorations of the Second World War. 116 of the burials are unidentified. Many of the casualties are as a result of the Battle for Walcheren (Operation Infatuate), at the beginning of November 1944. Walcheren was an island that dominated the the entrance to the River Scheldt, which the Germans fortified to prevent the allies gaining access to the vital deep water port at Antwerp. After a hard fought battle, that principally involved units from the 52nd (Lowland) Division, the 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade and the 4th Special Service Brigade, the island was secured on the 8th November 1944. There are also seven First World War burials (one airman and six unknown sailors) and 21 war graves of other nationalities.

    NOORDWIJK GENERAL CEMETERY

    • Locality: Zuid-Holland
    • Visiting Information: Cemetery opening hours are: 1st April to 1st October daily 0730 to 1830hrs Sunday and Holiday’s 1000 to 1600hrs 1st October to 1st April 0730 to 1630hrs Sunday and Holiday’s 1000 to 1600hrs
    • Location Information: Cemetery Address: Oude Zeeweg 32 2202 Noordwijk GPS Location: N 52° 14’ 015” E 04° 26’ 000” Noordwijk is situated to the north of Den Haag on the coast. From the A44 motorway take exit (afrit) 8 LEIDEN /NOORDWIJK / KATWIJK / TRANSFERIUM and follow the N206 direction NOORDWIJK. From the N206 take the exit NOORDWIJK and follow the signs for NOORWIJK AAN ZEE, continue along the BEEKLAAN and turn right at signpost for ALGEMENE BEGRAAFPLAATS The Commonwealth War Graves plots are in the centre of the cemetery and also on the higher level on the left side.
    • Historical Information: The Commonwealth plot in Noordwijk General Cemetery contains 81 burials of the First World War, including 54 unidentified naval ratings. Of the 52 Second World War burials, 19 are unidentified. The plot also contains 2 Polish Airmen's graves, 1 is unidentified.

    OLDENZAAL PROTESTANT CEMETERY

    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Overijssel
    • Location Information: Oldenzaal is a small town situated 11 kilometres north of Enschede on the main road to north-west Germany and Scandinavia. The cemetery is about 800 metres south-west of the town on Hengelosestraat, adjacent to the Roman Catholic Cemetery from which it is separated by a tall hedge. The Commonwealth war graves are against the eastern boundary hedge.
    • Historical Information: Oldenzaal Protestant Cemetery contains 13 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, all of members of the land forces who died in the latter stages of the war in the Netherlands.

    OVERLOON WAR CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Noord-Brabant

    • Location Information: The town of Overloon lies in the south of the Netherlands approx 40kms to the south of Nijmegen. From the A73 Nijmegen to Venlo motorway take exit 7 (Afrit 7) VIERLINGSBEEK / OVERLOON and follow the direction OVERLOON. Continue for approx 2kms along the VIERLINGSBEEKSEWEG and on entering the village of Overloon turn left (CWGC sign). The cemetery can be found after approx 100m on the left. The cemetery address is:- Vierlingsbeekseweg 5825 Overloon Netherlands GPS Location is:- N 51 34 26 E 05 57 27
    • Historical Information: The Netherlands fell to the Germans in May 1940 and was not re-entered by Allied forces until September 1944. There was severe fighting in the vicinity of Overloon in October-November 1944, when the Germans were being cleared out of the region south and west of the Maas in preparation for the final attack on the Rhineland. Most of the burials in Overloon War Cemetery are of men who died during these months. The cemetery contains 280 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, and one Dutch war grave.

    's GRAVENZANDE GENERAL CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Zuid-Holland
    • Location Information: 's Gravenzande is situated to the south-west of Den Haag on the coast. From the Rotterdam ring E25 follow the signs for The Hook of Holland, and then follow the E30 through Monster to 's Gravenzande. Follow the main road through the town, called Naaldwijkseweg, and the cemetery is along here near the windmill and next to the church.
    • Historical Information: 's Gravenzande General Cemetery contains 112 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, 97 of them are unidentified, and many of them sailors and marines killed on 22 September 1914 with the loss of the vessels "Cressy", "Hogue" and "Aboukir". 59 of these burials were brought into the cemetery from seven other burial grounds on the coast of south Holland and the islands near Rotterdam. There are also three burials of the Second World War, one of which is unidentified.

    SITTARD GENERAL CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Limburg
    • Location Information: Sittard lies on the main road from Maastricht to Roermond, 19 kilometres north east of Maastricht and 29 kilometres south west of Roermond. The cemetery is located in the eastern part of the town in Vrangendael. From the President Kennedysingel turn into Keulsebaan, then take the second turning on the right into Vrangendael. The cemetery is along here on the left. The entrance is set well back from the road. From the cemetery main entrance, take the four steps on the very left hand side and follow the path straight on. The Commonwealth war graves will be found on the left of this path.
    • Historical Information: There are now 20, 1939-1945 war casualties commemorated in this site. Of these, one is unidentified.

    SITTARD WAR CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Limburg
    • Location Information: The town of Sittard is in the south east corner of the Netherlands close to the German border, and approx 25kms north east of Maastricht. From the A2 motorway Eindhoven to Maastricht take exit 48 (afrit 48) URMOND / GELEEN / STEIN. Follow the direction N294 SITTARD for approx 4kms. Turn right onto N276 direction SITTARD-ZUID and continue for approx 1km. Turn right SITTARD ZUID / GELEEN and follow the signs for SITTARD ZUID. Turn left onto RIJKSWEG ZUID and continue for approx 1km, passing under the railway bridge. Turn right (CWGC sign) onto GEUWEG and after 50m turn right (CWGC sign) onto KROMSTRAAT. The cemetery can be found after approx 400m on the right The cemetery address is:- Kromstraat 6133 Sittard Netherlands GPS Location is:- N 50 59 21 E 05 51 16
    • Historical Information: The burials in the cemetery, apart from a few dating from November 1944, are almost all from the months of January and February 1945. The men buried here belong mostly to the Scottish regiments of the 52nd (Lowland) Division, engaged in the battle in this vicinity from 18th to 24th January 1945, which had as its object the clearing of a salient west of the River Roer which was still held by the Germans. There are now over 230 1939-1945 War casualties commemorated in this site.

    ST. OEDENRODE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCHYARD
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Noord-Brabant
    • Location Information: St. Oedenrode is a village 16 kilometres north of Eindhoven and about 7.5 kilometres east of the main road from Eindhoven to s'Hertogenbosch. This cemetery is in the precincts of the Roman Catholic Church, which faces the market square. The graves are in a prominent position, surrounding a high mound on the eastern side of the Cemetery.
    • Historical Information: St. Oedenrode was occupied by the Germans until the arrival of the 101st American Airborne Division on September 17th, 1944, followed two days later by units of the British Army. Together British and Americans established a corridor through the commune for the passage of troops, and in this fighting there were casualties among both soldiers and civilians. A temporary hospital was set up in the Roman Catholic girls' school at Oedenrode, and the British soldiers who died there were buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.

    UDEN WAR CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Noord-Brabant
    • Location Information: The town of Uden lies in the south east of the Netherlands, approx 33kms to the north east of Eindhoven. From the A50 Eindhoven to Nijmegen motorway take exit 14 (Afrit 14) ZEELAND / UDEN and follow the signs for UDEN. Continue for approx 500m and turn right (CWGC sign) onto BITSWIJK, continue for approx 1km during which the road name changes to MONSEIGNEUR BOSSTRAAT. Turn left (CWGC Signposted) onto PIUSPLEIN and then turn right (CWGC sign) after approx 100m onto BURGEMEESTER BUSKENSSTRAAT. The cemetery can be found approx 100m on the right. The cemetery address is:- Burgermeester Buskensstraat 5401 Uden Netherlands GPS Location is:- N 51 39 49 E 05 36 45
    • Historical Information: Uden was occupied by the Germans until its liberation in September 1944. In the earlier years of the war Commonwealth and Allied servicemen were buried in the garden of the parish priest which adjoined the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Later it became necessary to provide another burial ground for them and in 1943 the municipality acquired the Roman Catholic Cemetery, unused since about 1918, for this purpose. After the war more than 100 graves from the garden of the parish priest, and also a number of isolated graves from various parts of the commune, were moved into this cemetery. Uden War Cemetery now contains 701 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War (two of them unidentified) and two Polish war graves.

    VALKENSWAARD WAR CEMETERY
    • Country: Netherlands
    • Locality: Noord-Brabant
    • Location Information: The town of Valkenswaard lies in the south of the Netherlands, approx 10kms south of Eindhoven and close to the Belgian border. From the A2 Eindhoven to Maastricht motorway take exit 33 (Afrit 33) N69 VALKENSWAARD and follow the direction VALKENSWAARD. Continue for approx 11kms, passing through the town of Valkenswaard and following signs for N69 HASSELT. The cemetery can be found on the right hand side and is signposted. The cemetery address is:- Luikerweg 5554 Valkenswaard Netherlands GPS Location is:- N 51 18 43 E 05 25 31
    • Historical Information: Valkenswaard was the first village to be liberated on the main line of the British advance into Holland in September 1944. The cemetery, which lies in a pinewood, contains over 220 graves, almost all of them are those of men who fell in the fighting in the woods around Valkenswaard during that month. All the men buried here belonged to the forces of the United Kingdom.

    VENRAY WAR CEMETERY

    • Locality: Limburg

    • Location Information: The town of Venray lies in the south of the Netherlands approx 40kms to the east of Eindhoven. From the A73 Nijmegen to Venlo motorway take exit 9 (Afrit 9) N270 VENRAY / HELMOND and follow the signs for HELMOND. Continue for approx 3kms to a roundabout and turn right (CWGC sign) onto the LANGSTRAAT. Continue for approx 800m and turn left (CWGC sign) onto the WESTSINGEL. Continue for approx 1km and turn left (CWGC sign) onto the HOENDERSTRAAT. The cemetery can be found after approx 700m on the right. The cemetery address is:- Hoenderstraat 5801 Venray Netherlands GPS Location is:- N 51 31 45 E 05 57 20
    • Historical Information: The Netherlands fell to the Germans in May 1940 and was not re-entered by Allied forces until September 1944. The town of Venray was liberated by Allied troops in the middle of October 1944, and the burials in the cemetery date from October 1944 to March 1945. Venray War Cemetery contains 692 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 30 of them unidentified, and one Polish burial.
