I wonder if any one knows of, remembers, has anectdotes about or any other information about the following:

I would like to learn more about RSM Jack Burrows also Lt Richard Anstey, who was KIA in March 1945 and his brother Lt C.R.P Anstey.
If anybody remembers Cliff Dowding, Fred Pepper, Jack Maw, Bill Flatt, Lt Mike Bowne, Major Guy Threlfall, Jimmy Gough, Fred Digby, RSM Tom Heggerty, any info about Col Henry Huth (he was CO of C squadron in June 44), Lt Col Goulburn, Lt Col Kilkelly or indeed anybody else who knows any thing about the 8th Hussars at this time please get in touch. I am in touch with some of the above and in some cases have been contacted by family members.

    Hi Chris,

My Father was Sgt. Sidney Sherriff. I have loads of photos of people & places re. 8th KRI, but with little annotation. Photos are mostly of Shermans, like a set of 3 photos showing A Sqn crossing the Seine at Rouen. Tank nos = BU1523, BU1522, BU1521, B1515.

My Father commanded "No.2 section Xmas 1943" according to his Roll Book, "1St Protective Troop." Names appearing = Cpl. Abbey, Cpl. Barnard (deleted), L/C Jefferys, Tps. Bowden, Tpr. Burton, Tpr. Churms, Tpr. Evans, Tpr. Hoyland, Tpr. James, Tpr. Maddison, Tpr. Pye, Tpr. Street, Tpr. Waite, L/C Rawson. Many of the same names appear in an August '44 photo.

There are the expected cryptic notes of the 75mm rounds not affecting Panthers or Tigers!

Sadly, there is also a photo of the graves of Sgt. Lyson and Tpr. Smallwood, "Dilsen, Feb 1945 Belgium".

There is a personal letter from a resident of Ciney.

I hope that this is of interest. Please come back to me if I can be of any help or if you want any photos. Its great to see his cap badge again!

    Andy,

Thanks for the info - i have replied to you by email.

It looks like Sgt Lyson and Trooper Smallwood were replacements, and are not listed as 8th Hussars, Tpr Smallwood is listed as RAC and Sgt. Lyson as East riding Yeomanry. Does the grave show them as 8th Hussars? It seems that there are only 5 graves at Dilsen.

I am Robin Anstey’s grandson and Richard Hardie Anstey was my great uncle. I have the war diary extract of my Great Uncle Richards final action that I will dig out and post here.
