This picture from the IWM online archives is captioned: A Morris CDSW artillery tractor and other vehicles of 1st Anti-Aircraft Brigade being camouflaged with netting at their HQ near Le Mans, 19 September 1939. See post No.10 in the thread below: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/1940/30097-bef-army-troops-vehicle-arm-service-markings-others.html
The problem: Andrew Foulkes Vehicle Markings of the BEF has 1 AA Bde as 33 with the white bar at the bottom. The same book has 20 with the white bar on top (same as the image) issued to 52 LAA Regiment with I Corps and 54 LAA Regiment with III Corps. 52 LAA can be ruled out as their WD shows them landing at Cherbourg on 20th Sept and they kept well north of Le Mans as they headed east towards the French/Belgium border. 54 LAA can not be ruled out as their diary starts in October with them already in France. 1 AA Bde WD has them firmly placed in France at Le Mans on the 19th September and did not have a LAA Regiment in its order of battle. Any thoughts?
WO 167/423 1 AA Bde WD does have vehicles arriving on the day but they are from 6 HAA Regt. Andrew Foulkes book has them as 35 with a white bar on the bottom.
From post No.14 of the BEF Army Troops thread. Same unit on the beaches at Dunkirk-It appears to have the East Mole in the background.
1 AA Bde diary ends in April 52 LAA has them on 'beaches' at the end of May. 54 LAA has a interesing diary entry at the end of May which places them very close to the Mole:
