Tunisia battlefield tours?

    Hi all,

I was talking with a coworker today who is from Tunisia and it put a bit of a bug in my head (is that the right expression) to see if maybe I could possibly do a tour in Tunisia this year.

However I am kind of hopeless as an independent traveler (I don't even have a driver's license), so I don't think I could do anything on my own.

There have been a few past threads about doing tours. I was wondering if anyone has been there more recently and what things are like there now?

I'm not clear on whether Western Desert Battlefield Tours is still ongoing or not. Any recommendations on guides/companies would be very welcome. And would anyone else be interested in going...?????

    Chris,

Western's website was up a month ago as a member asked for recommendations for a tour to El Alamein.

The author of the Bradt guide to Tunisia is a member here. He authored a thread a couple of years ago. Standby need to identify him. He is: ozymandias24

Try engaging with Ghosts of War he was intending to visit in 2024. See: WWII remnants and relics in Tunisia and Algeria

Also have a word with Trevor aka Takrouna . He visits Tunisia regularly and will be able to offer advice I should think.

I know that Steve Hamilton - a guru on the Western Desert has been very ill recently. He guides for Western Desert Battlefield Tours.

Hi Chris, I feel your frustration! I know someone who is researching to organise a Tour in 2026. Early days. The Bradt tour guide of Tunisia is a good place to start. You could hire a taxi in Tunis and do some battlefields and cemeteries nearby. Or start with a taxi in Hammamet or Souse and do nearby Takrouna battlefield (one of my favourites). I don't do Tours, all my travel is self-guided and it's more battlefield exploration than traditional look-see.

Hi, any chance you could put me in touch with that person?

It might be best for me to think about 2026 for this.

    Chris,

Trevor Sheehan's name appeared yesterday, as he is a speaker in London on 10/5/2025.

Have a peek at the video. The intro states:

The video appears to be his only public film clip.

Hi I'm "@AfricanStalingrad" Trevor Sheehan. I specialise in Tunisia 1942-43. Currently there are no WW2 Battlefield Tour companies covering Tunisia that I am aware of. But that might change. There are companies doing tours of Roman Ruins who could diversify into WW2 tours. I am assisting one person who is potentially setting up Tours in 2026. There are individuals in Tunisia - both ExPats and locals - who visit battlefields and I am helping one small group who go out on the odd weekend. I also visit a few times a year and you are welcome to join in but please note my trips are 'exploration' trips so full of adventure and unknown outcomes. My next trip to Tunisia is for only 2 days, dates to be confirmed, basically a long weekend, first day is to fully explore Longstop Hill (and, if time, Banana Ridge), second day is to visit the American and French military cemeteries near Tunis and a side trip to Hammam Lif battlefield. Flights from Gatwick are currently about £180 hand luggage only. I'm best contacted via email takrouna1943@hotmail.com :)
