Goodevening everyone, At the moment I'm working my way trough the 2nd Canadian Corps Signals war diary. These diaries are loaded with abbreviations of which I'm unable to find any good explanation of. Are you guys able to help me understanding them? TM sec CCTS PTT RTT PT Wireless TFC Test PTS -> Could this be test points? TP DR and LO TEVs quads BOOM Regards, Remi
A few look familiar - TM sec - should be Technical Maintenance Section, which was a subunit of the HQ Coy of both Corps Sigs and Div Sigs DR - despatch rider LO - liaison officer TEV - terminal equipment vehicle, a 3-ton lorry equipped as a mobile telephone exchange I can't say I recognise any of the others, and likewise couldn't find them in Special Series No.13, which has a decent abbreviation section; https://carlcgsc.libguides.com/ld.php?content_id=47612732 That does show TT as being something called 'tonic train', this being 'a type of modulation for transmission of Morse code', which might be related to PTT and RTT (or might not). Quad might be a type of cable for line transmission with four strands. BOOM sounds positively dangerous! Gary
Gary Kennedy timuk and Hugh MacLean Thank you for your answers! Very useful to help me understand these diaries. A colleague of mine mentioned TFC could be tactical field communication as well. So the CCT or CCTS are these wired circles which travel across a group units? Something you would see nowadays in tactical assembly areas iot reduce the EMS of a unit? Cheers Remi
Maybe, Remi - the answers I gave were based on my own experienced as an ex-RN communications rating albeit from a later era. Also, army abbreviations for the time may also have been a little different. CCT/CCTS would be short for circuit or circuits as in wireless or radio circuits but It is sometimes much better to see the document or part thereof showing their usage for a proper context.
