hello all I am doing a photo representation of service through the conflict and in need of a representation of the B.E.F shoulder patch for 1940 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade. 1st Armoured Div. can anyone point me in the right direction. Uncle wrote his recolections and memories of his War and I am hopefully going to put a good looking front page to round it off.
Would they not be wearing the 'normal' RB shoulder flash of 'Rifle Brigade' in black on dark green on their battledress blouses?
Just edited thread title to include 'Rifle Brigade' it will help members notice the thread who may have relevent info.
The curved regimental designations weren't worn in 1940*. There were no divisional flashes worn, either. The original idea was to keep battle dress as plain as possible for security and camouflage, but it didn't last long. * Subject to the usual disclaimer that there's no such thing as a uniform in the British Army - Guards battalions had shoulder titles in 1940. I am unable to prove that 1 RB did not wear something...
Not sure but in 1940 would they have nothing but the brass RB on their epaulette as in WW1 ? http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSK6xdZwRRsDcWoPlCjEPh6IfQGKecqGPRa6Q_LK8qygpZfQ9b8
Metal shoulder titles weren't supposed to be worn on BD and you'd think regular units would follow the rules. I do recall one of Andy's post-Dunkirk photos of a Surrey/Sussex Yeo trooper with unauthorised collar dogs on his BD, so the rules were broken.
