Hi everybody. I'm planning a holiday trip to the beautiful green island in a short while. I'm aware of the Derwent Dams and the memorial there. Are there others that should be considered?
I understand that there are several museums which cover the subject. Any special one recommended ?

There is the Petwood Hotel where the Dambusters were based - quite close to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, was the officers mess - they have a lot of memorabilia

Woodhall Spa would be good as there is Coningsby and East Kirkby close by.

The Dambusters Inn in Scampton village has no wartime connections with the wartime RAF Scampton. It was a conversion from a Post Office probably 20 years ago. However it had a superb collection of memorabilia which was on display until the original owner left.Items, probably were regarded as his personal property and taken away. There is still much to see but the pub, as so many, has had a few owners, who have found it difficult to keep it going. The pub is again opened with a new owner, reputed to be South African and a chef to boot.Called in there a few weeks ago and given a friendly welcome.

RAF Scampton has its own small museum with viewings prearranged with Merv Halham who is the curator.A search will reveal his contact phone and e mail details.

Do not miss the No 617 Squadron memorial a short distance from the Petwood in Woodhall Spa.

Thank you all. I will be able to design a really good trip from your suggestions.

Andy: No, I hadn't previously. (Must have used bad search criteria.) After seeing your brilliant pictures the young is very positive to a dams trip !
