PRIVATE EVAN OWEN DAVIES Service Number: 1082368 Regiment & Unit/Ship Pioneer Corps - 278 Coy. Date of Death - Died 01 June 1945 Buried or commemorated at VENRAY WAR CEMETERY VIII. G. 7. Netherlands Can anyone help a gentleman from the Netherlands, who is researching this soldier, he is buried in the gentleman's local GWGC Cemetery. I believe that he may be the Evan Owen Davis who is on the 1939 National Register, but cannot connect hi to the soldier who was accidently killed on the 1st June 1945. Thank you in advance for any help you can give. Regards, Mavis Williams
From near numbered soldiers who have surviving Royal Artillery tracer cards on ancestry it looks like he joined the RA on 17th Sept 1940, which would match with him being at the home address on 1939 Register. 1082340 Jones, Bert - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 117th Field Regiment 1082341 Jones, Emlyn - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 117th Field Regiment 1082342 Jones, George - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 117th Field Regiment 1082346 Jones, Hugh - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 117th Field Regiment 1082368 1082378 Siddall - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 102 Field Regiment (TA) 1082383 Jones - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 102 Field Regiment (TA) 1082386 Wilkinson - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 102 Field Regiment (TA) 1082388 Ollenshaw - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 102 Field Regiment (TA) 1082389 Swindells - joined 17th Sept 1940 - first unit 102 Field Regiment (TA) Probable probate for 1082368 is: An brief online tree on ancestry gives Margaret Ellen as the sister of the 1939 Register Evan Owen Davies. Margaret & George Roberts had married in 1935, and in 1939 the couple both born in 1910 were living at 46 Chester Road, Haywarden. In 1939 40 Chester Road is occupied by Mary Anne Roberts, a widow born in 1873, so possibly George's mother & they had moved back in with her by 1945. Attached to the tree is a 1911 census entry for Thomas, age 22 born Llanshuhad, Denbighshire (a carter on a farm) and Mary Davies age 23 born Wigan, Lancs, living at 3 Halkyn Street, Holywell showing their only children as Evan Owen age 4 & Margaret Ellen age 1. The 1921 Census entry for Wrexham you have posted I think relates to another Davies family with children Margaret Ellen & Evan Owen which can probably be be ruled out by this Margaret Ellen's age on the 1911 census. 1911 At Top Talwan, Coedpoeth, Wrexham. DAVIES Evan, head, age 32, coal miner Hewer DAVIES Margaret, wife, age 32 married 7 years, 4 children all surviving. DAVIES Margaret Ellen, dau, age 6 DAVIES Evan Owen, son, age 5 DAVIES Ceridwen, dau, age 3 DAVIES David William, son, age 3 months Although this of course poses the question of where Margaret & Owen of Holywell are in 1921 ?
