Got this one now, thanks to the tip-off by Orwell1984.

    Right up my street, this.

I confess I didn’t buy this, so a bit of a cheat; my mother-in-law found this yesterday in her loft and thought of me, so a very nice gift indeed. Original price on the inside cover is 16/-.

Seen the film, not read the book:

Have you thought about opening yours to the public and charging admission? Orwell1984

I think my wife would think that that's an EXCELLENT idea.

Got a copy of this when I was about 13 and it's one of the handful of books that is to blame for my now overloaded bookshelves nearly 30 years on. Definitely one of the books that started the 'itch'. Enjoy!

    Follow-up from My book-buying "problem"

It took a little longer than I anticipated, but three more volumes of the Norwegian Army official history has joined the others in the library. Seeking the last three volumes.

My Lady and I have a train vacation scheduled through Norway and Sweden this coming summer. We will visit many of the main locations discussed in the histories. Oscarsborg Fortress is on the itinerary and two nights in Narvik.

    Pista! Jeff

The Heinkel book showed up (the definitive work on the subject I'm sure. Chock full of info and photographs) and the postie also delivered this:

It's going to be a three volume set and looks rather good.

I am so pleased to have found this in a charity shop last week for the princely sum of £1.99.
I remember getting it out of my local library when I was a kid and I just had to buy it when I saw it.

Amazed to find that it has been signed by the authors who contributed to the book, including the great Roger Freeman and M J F Bowyer to name but two. Very chuffed with that

Looks like it'll be a good read. The bonus is having it signed by two Great Authors, I have loads of Roger Freeman's books plus a few of Michael Bowyer's.

    The search continues.

After beginning the collection of the Norwegian Army histories, I am learning some Norwegian. I discovered that the volume Operasjonene i Østfold (East of the Fjord) didn't included the fighting in the Øslofjorden. That is found in the naval histories, so some new books to find. I have obtained the first three.

Arrived today ... Cambridge University Press 1988.

Hard-cover, pristine copy, bought at a bargain for € 10,-- ... whereas prices on Amazon are € 52,00 for the paperback and € 154,-- for hardcover (!).

Saw this in local charity shop. Thought 'Ooh, I'll have that. Only a quid' 20240221_060707.jpg

Only later did I realise it was one I'd donated myself not more than three months ago!

I've just received this and spent half an hour going over it.

First edition, but ex libris with battered boards and an embarrassingly long errata page.

Overall, in pretty poor nick for a collector.

    And yet...

    It only cost me £7.99.

Including postage from the UK to South Korea.

And internally it's pristine, with multiple fold-out maps and photo sections, plus more appendices full of statistics than you can shake a stick at and lots of named men, NCOs and officers. It's actually a really good book, with an author who seems quite fastidious about his charts, dates and data, and has mined all the journals that I can't get at owing to rarity and geographic distance.

Plus, he isn't very good about sticking to the topic, so there's a good amount of extra narrative about what other units and formations were doing in these theatres.

Overall, it turned out to be a great purchase--especially for my point of reference: Hong Kong & Malaya '48 to '51.
