Just read a review of this book by Graham Hoyland, published by Amberley, pgs. 272 and £20. I expect it is behind a pay wall: The power behind The Few: Rolls-Royce’s Merlin engine | The Spectator

Not a subject I would pursue, so added here as others could be interested and not aware of the book's existence.

I was puzzled to read that the Merlin's predecessor, the Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine was tested in Germany in 1935, in the ME-109 and Stuka. The Germans supplied their engine(s). The 'brilliant wing designer for Spitfire, Beverley Shenstone, spent working with Junkers in Dessau.'
