Recently came across this unit history - no idea where it came from.
If anyone is interested in the contents (79 pages) I am happy to copy the document or scan and post relevant pages.

    Cheers Michael, enjoy it!

I found out where it came from. Apparently a friend of a Great Aunt, the wonderfully named George Cross, was in 2 Lincs and the Great Aunt was in service to the family of a 2 Lincs Officer. I don't know whether the Officer was the author (no name stated on the history) or how my Great Aunt got hold of the history but it was found in her papers after she died. Glad someone kept hold of it and it eventually filtered down to me.

I got a bit worried when scanning this since several pages were loose (virtually falling out). The two staples used when the book was made were too short and weren't bent over at the ends. Then I got confused with the page numbers of the scans until I realised pages 37/38 and 43/44 had been duplicated (I hadn't read it all at the time).
Then it got worse as pages 57/58 were printed so far off centre that part of the text was not visible since it was in the stapled part of the page. If it hadn't have been for the fact that the pages were falling out I wouldn't have been able to scan and re-centre the text on the scans.
I will reassemble the book, with the original duplicated pages and partly unreadable pages, with longer staples. Luckily the cover was poorly glued and this will be easy to replace. The colouring on the front cover seems to have been added at some point, probably in felt pen as the dark blue has leeched right through the cover and slightly onto the face page.
The book seems so amateurly produced (apart from the points mentioned above much of the text is crooked) that I wonder how many copies were made and survive today?

I have just joined this site today and found your post. I have recently inherited a box of things from my grandmother containing two letters from her brother that he wrote from the D Day Landings. He was killed on the 27th of June 1944 and he was in the 2nd Lincolnshire Battalion. I would be so delighted to receive a copy of the item you have. I will gladly pay for it. I look forward to hearing from you and thankyou. Francis

Hi Francis and welcome to the forum.
I have uploaded the book to Photobucket and you can view and download it from there free. Apparently you might have to save pages individually as the 'bulk download' appears to be having problems.

    In return I would ask:
    1. That you share your Great Uncle's letters by scanning and posting them here for members to see.
    2. Consider making a donation to a charity such as the Royal British Legion or Help for Heroes.

Hope you enjoy the history and enjoy your time here.

Yes of course I will be delighted to share those letters with you. I am in the process of moving and many of my papers are packed away at the moment but will do this as soon as I can. Thankyou.

Mike. Thankyou so much for the Diaries. My Great Uncle is listed in the 'Roll of Honour' and I have for so long wondered where he fell. I will as promised post the letters as soon as I can. They make sad reading . I have one or two photographs also that I am not sure where they were taken. My grandfather was also in the landings. He was in the 8th Army. There is a map in my posession thats a bit worn but I think its entitled to be as I think it was the map my grandfather was given for the landings. I will post all the things I have if you think they would be of interest. I donate regularly but will make a special donation to the Royal and Heroes. Thankyou again. :)

Hi Francis, so glad the diary was of interest. It is what this forum is all about.
I must say I don't have a particular interest in the Lincs, it is just that the history came into my posession and I thought it might be of interest to members. From the responses so far there are several members who I am sure would love to see your Great Uncle's letters etc. If you put his name on this thread you might find someone has some more information about him.

    An update on this thread:
Today my Father was sorting out some old paperwork and came across ANOTHER copy of the 2 Lincs history in NW Europe together with a few other Lincs snippets. These include a photocopy of a 'potted history' of the Royal Lincs and a couple of other pieces.
There were also 13 editions of 'Overlord' the newsletter of the NVA (newsletters 21 to 34 less no. 32. July 1986 to January 1990). In newsletter 27 I found an article about George Cross mentioned earlier in this thread and probably the original owner of these papers.
Also with the papers was a brand new unused NVA blazer badge.

The scanned files appear to be too large to add to the thread as thumbnails so I have uploaded them to Photobucket, link here:

I hope these are of interest to members.

After a trip 'up north' to visit relatives I now have a bit more on George Cross and his time in 2 Lincs:

A Regimental crest now in my posession, it might end up over the bar in my local Legion if they don't already have one.

George is centre, behind the Sgt with the Tommy gun. I love the two brens in the foreground.

Commemorative coin from the 45th anniversary of D-Day.

George's name and details engraved on the back. The coin is now 'on loan' to me.

George as I remember him with my Great Aunt Grace.
