Is anyone able to transcribe a section of an Army service record for me? I am having trouble with identifying the parts in red. The last part of it looks like a date 28th May 42? Thanks Mike
Its a code as to where the authority for his transfer originated. This would have no bearing on the person named in the Service Record. For administrative purposes only. Just in case you see a similar format in your records, the “28542” is most likely the date: 28th May 1942
Cheers, I sort of guessed that was what it was generally but I thought the CRWE didn't look right.but I couldn't find it in the list of abbreviations
Hi Being pedantic, i think it reads ..."& posted 30th Battalion. Authority CRWC No S/7864" ... regards Robert
Ok guys, Any help with the line below? Looks like PVIII 22/44 WCCCS Attend to W.C.Reg ?????? School ?? R ? A Can't make out location 14-4-42
Its illegible with no context to judge it by. Please post the whole document in a size and condition that can be read. You might find the answer in here: WW2 Abbreviations and Acronyms | Researching the Lives and Records of WW2 Soldiers
Sorry it was a copy of a copy! Here is abetter (hopefully) scan of the service record Form B103-II - It is the last 3 lines I am interested in I had looked at the abbreviations listing but could not fond them.
WCCCS = Western Command Company Commanders School at Nantwich. RA = Ration Allowance. CTBA = Ceased to be attached. p.s. That's a clearer copy!
Thanks Richard, I thought it might be Nantwich, it is located quite close to us. My guess is he was taught to drive there, a few months after this his rank changed to Dvr (driver) Can you make out what the second line up says dated 9/5/42? Looks like "Stu or Ptu Leave" and the bottom line "for R e A with effect from" Cheers Mike
I would go with that jonboy, it looks to be followed up with "Lower Rate Ration Allowance (R.A.)" Do you agree?
Thanks for your reply Lesley, I have only just read the footer details on your page. I am tracing my fathers service and I have not yet got as far as active service, but after all this training he embarks for Scicily and Italy in July 1943, I think at that time he was with the RASC 78th company. Is this a bit co-incidental? Cheers Mike
Please elucidate regarding this statement: RASC 78th company. Is this a bit co-incidental? Is there another thread somewhere?
