Great to be on the forum, after reading a lot of posts in the past years! My special interest en expertise is on operation Veritable & the Rhineland Campaign, since I live near these former battlefields. My current hooby projects are: -The website Operation Veritable (only in Dutch yet). -Local history of the villages of Milsbeek/ Gennep and the Milsbeek War Cemetery -Member of the 'Groesbeek Airborne Friends' Greetings from Holland! Frank
Hello Frankieo, welcome to the forum! I hope you're planning to make an English version of your site.
Hi Frank and welcome to the forum. The website looks great. Any chance of an English language version? Jonathan
Hi Frankieo & welcome Also have a special interest in "Veritable" & the Rhineland Campaign from the Corps Artillery side. Best Rob
Frankieo and Stolpi You might find the next coming posts in this thread interesting ... http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/brigade-guards/36526-account-3rd-tank-bn-scots-guards-jul-1944-may-1945-a.html Will be adding some sketch maps like this one http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac198/ww2guards/P1540882.jpg
Welcome! Have you ever run into a Jaap Vermeer in your travels? He is involved with a group that works with families of lost Allied Airmen and whatever else he can do to help them. He arranged for another Dutch friend to visit my Uncle Donald Weisel's resting place in Normandy this year on our Memorial Day. Jaap and his friends and group are some outstanding folks. Again welcome and if we can be of any help please do not hesitate to ask.
Hey all! Great to see some familiar people/nicknames responding in my introduction! -Unfortunatly there are no realistic (I'm running out of free time) plans to make the website in English soon. There are so many topics to research and to work on yet, and the main focus now is to collect all the personal stories of soldiers and veterans. I'll respond to your other questions in a minute...
@Stolpi: The 15th Scottish also played a big role in Veritable, so I'm looking forward to your thread as well. @Rob Dickers: Since the Artillery played a big role in the start of both Veritable and Plunder, It think these battles are quite interesting for you indeed! Do you also have personal accounts of the Corps Artillery? @DBF: What a great maps of the route all through N.W.Europe, can't wait for the story next to the Veritable map! And ofcoourse we met recently, you already have some interesting stories of the Irish Guards men on your website, we keep in touch. @PA Dutchmen: No, I'm not familier with both your and his name. And what is the link with the Rhineland / planes exactly? thanks all!
Frank Welcome to the forum from Canada. My Dad was in the 7th Recce Regiment, ( 17th Duke of York's Royal Canadian Hussars ), 3rd Division, Canadian Army. He had many fond recollections of the Dutch people. Cheers, Randy
