Thank you for posting these Paul. Out of everything I have read so far, these have moved me the most. I had to stop reading for a while as I was getting very misty eyed. Thanks for updating Peter Mason, and he was cmdr of C squadron, not B as I said earlier. Also, I think Charles Richard Spencer may be 44th recce from the citation? (He is down as 46th). You have done a superlative job with these Paul. Really. Regards, Diane
Lovely to see my dads MM info (sgt Donald Smith), France star, Africa star, Italy star, ended up captain. I have London Gazette cutout, his cap badge, also a hand carved cig box in form of a tank he was presented with at Catterick.
Hello and welcome. Lovely to have another Recce here Do you think you could start a new thread in the Recce forum with any photos of your dad and photos of the other things you have. It is always nice to put a face to a name and we like photos  Lesley
Welcome to the forum, great to have another Recce on board. I'll second what Lesley has said. Cheers Paul
This is my father and just recently I have been putting together a history of his life including of course his war service. Like many he spoke very little about it so I have been interested to find these forums.
Thanks for posting this.....we've now had my Dad's MC and this citation framed for his Grandson (who is 23!) He turned 96 in October last year and is still going strong - living in Johannesburg. I'll be seeing him in 3 weeks time and will show him this site. Regards Richard Howell
I have been lucky enough to make the acquaintance of Jim Howell, now 96 years old and a retired doctor living in Johannesburg. He and I had a wonderful afternoon yesterday discussing military history and I hope this will be come a regular thing.
Rare WW2 Full Size (MM) Military Medal G.VI.R, R.A.C (Reconnaissance Corps) | eBay The medal has seen better days but could be a bargain for someone? Kyle
Hello Graham and a warm welcome to the forum. Yes we would like you to post any information and pictures of your granddad. We have quite a few members whose relatives were in Recce and look forward to seeing them. Lesley
Welcome to the forum, great to have another Recce on board. By all means post anything you have on your Grandad. Cheers Paul
Hello again. I've attached a few pictures as we put my grandads medals in a display. He was a Serjeant in the 3rd reconnaissance regiment fusiliers. He was present at Dunkirk, and later landed on sword beach. He also received the military medal, which was presented by monty and also a letter from the King. We understand that he and another volunteered to go back for an injured Dutch firefighter in the varanje area. When they rescued him, they were less than 100m from the German front line. He received a letter from the Dutch man's daughter, along with a chocolate bar, and that was in 1946. I don't have a photo to hand of the letter, but will take one and post it. Anyway - photos are the usual service medals, along with Dunkirk veterans medal. And his military medal. Thanks ☺️
Excellent Graham, a great display. Do you have this? Pdf attached (should you not already have it): Recommendation for Award for Skelton, James Rank: Acting Serjeant Service... | The National Archives Kind regards, always, Jim. EDIT: From Recce_Mitch' previous post I can see you likely have I'm only fourteen years adrift, up to my usual standard!
