Hi, I'm looking into writing a book of the Greek and Crete campaigns, one thing I would love to do this would be accounts from people there. I know few veterans are left but if anyone had a family member who was involved and know some of the things they experienced I would love to hear them so they could be potentially used. This could be from any Commonwealth unit or service. Please drop me a message and I will definitely get back to you, thanks, Callum.
Looking forward to reading your book! Love Crete, the island itself and its WW2 history. I assume you are not looking for book titles or autobiographies? If so, let me know, although I am pretty sure I only have some to share which you already know about. Cheers and good luck with your research and writing, Ronald.
Have you tried the Oral History Collection at the IWM? Or sought help from similar places in Australia and New Zealand? the museum @ Heraklion, from memory has a WW2 collection. Asking those who have posted on the thread for the Chania memorial for the German paratroopers (the post title uses the German name). See: The Fallschirmjager memorial in Chania - Then and Now. There are a hundred threads with Crete in the title, so looking through them could help. I note the last Kiwi veteran of Crete has passed.
Hi The actor Clive Dunn was taken POW in Greece while serving with the 4th Hussars. He also wrote an autobiography. Dad's Army - Clive Dunn's Real Wars Travers
