    Ramiles,

I tried yesterday to find any sign that Captain Krapf was investigated for possible war crimes and only his photo kept on appearing.

    Thanks David.

It's so often the case that these IWM photos have been posted on social media and sometimes occasionally the context or routes to further information are lost.

By the look of it they were a diverse group of prisoners in a "POW cage" and presumably at some point something further will come out.

    Hi,

    This:
    Infanterie-Regiment 46 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht
advises that 'On 1942/33 the entry of the II. Battalion was deleted. The remaining units were partly renamed Grenadier Regiment 46 in 1943.'

    This:
    Kampf, Gerhard (Grenadier-Regiment 46) - TracesOfWar.com
has a brief bio for an officer of similar name and appointment:

20.09.1944: Hauptmann, Führer, II. Bataillon, Grenadier-Regiment 46, 30. Infanterie-Division, KIA in Rujiena, Latvia

For info as/if useful. Noting the close proximity of the military policeman in the holding image, I would have expected the Subject - whoever he was, but with that tactical questioner's marker - to have had a thorough interrogation, etc.

Assuming Quarterfinal's findings are correct, the POW in Normandy 19/7/1944, is not the Gerhard Kampf KIA on the Eastern Front about / on 20/9/1944.

The 30th Infantry Division has little history online, except it was on the Eastern Front - at least in March 1943, where it was decimated in fighting. See: Demyansk Pocket - Wikipedia They were finally in the Kurland pocket, surrendering there. See concise history on: Russian battery with hammer sickle badge very nice condition recovered from the area where the German 30th infantry division fought near Tilti in the Kurland Pocket the battlefield of 1944-1945

    Sheldrake All over the place....

The unit in Normandy might be Luftwaffen-Jäger-Regiment 46 Jäger-Regiment 46, which was on the receiving end of Op Charnwood and Op Goodwood and the groups of prisoners captured in film by the war photographers.
