In preparation for a 'what-if' wargame based on a German invasion of Ireland (the plan did exist, it was essentially a diversion for Operation Seelowe) and the planned British counter-invasion, does anyone have a detailed ORBAT for British forces stationed in Northern Ireland 1940-42? I have one for the Irish Free State army.
I might be able to rustle up an NI Command ORBAT for you. Leave it with me. If you try NAVAL-HISTORY.NET or Royal Navy Research Archive Home Page that might answer part of your question. A good book for RAF units is RAF Flying, Training and Support units (2nd Ed) by Ray Sturtivant (I think) which is available from Welcome to www.air-britain.co.uk Or try RAF Commands 1939 - 1945
Mark, have you seen this site and the link to Northern Ireland District ? The War Room - Allied Forces "British Troops in Northern Ireland" (BTNI) is also a useful search and any pictures you turn up showing a three-barred gate insignia are likely to be relevant. Rich
