Hi All, I am currently researching photo and video references for a project set during the Battle of Berlin. Za has pointed me in the direction of some excellent references on this forum http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/19139-nearly-had-heart-attack-~-bundesarchiv-photos.html http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/3331-hitlers-bunker.html and ofcourse this one http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/eastern-front/25801-photographs-evgenii-khaldei.html I have since been given some DVDs and a couple of books and wondered what the forum thought of them and if you folk know of any other relevant resources. Obviously while I have these books and DVDs if anyone wants any info from them please let me know The DVDs are Chronos Classics - "Bomben auf Berlin - Leben Zwischen furcht und hoffnung" Chronos Classics - "Schlacht um Berlin - das jahr 1945" Delta - "Berlin surrender - authentic historical footage" The books are Heimat Front - Iwan Schagin - kriegsfotografie 1941 -1945 - Museum Berlin So war Berlin - Weigarten The last book is actually photos of Berlin from 1890's to the 1930's Cheers Andy
Andy... Have you tried Anthony Beevor's "Battle for Berlin" ??? Photographically it's nothing I haven't seen before. But, for a detailed, historically accurate chronological account of the battle, it's the best I've come across.
Hi Blacksnake, No I have not tried it. The books and dvd were given to me by work as source material and since I have no knowledge of this subject I thought I would ask you guys and gals for your thoughts. Thanks for the recomendation, I'll see if work will buy it for me
Andy, Here is a gallery of good "then and nows" of Berlin at Third Reich Ruins: Berlin Some of the Books by Tony Le Tissier are worth a read although they would deal as much with the fighting in Halbe and Seelow as the fighting in Berlin!
Last Battle: The Classic History of the Battle for Berlin: Amazon.de: Cornelius Ryan: Englische Bücher best book I read about the battle of berlin. the writers had access to a huge amount of russian intelligence documents and red army archives. also a lot of eyewitness accounts from all different views. do not miss it!
Bloody Streets By Stephan Hamilton is a superb book on the subject, but you may well need to shop around as it isn't cheap anymore. A particularly good feature is the use of aerial photos which have the positions & movements of various units superimposed on them... Bloody Streets: The Soviet Assault on Berlin, April 1945: Amazon.co.uk: Stephan Hamilton: Books
Thank you for all your suggestions, they are most welcome Have any of you seen the DVDs I mentioned or do you have any recomendations? Also, photo references would be welcome too. Thanks again Andy
pictures from berlin during and after the battle. (by the way: the last photo shows one of our forum members.)
Thanks for those Lebach, There are some I had not seen before like the soldier and the lady pulling at the bicycle. What happened to that Panther!? Was the turret rmoved for to form part of the defense? And I would love to know the story behind the Panzerfaust picture too. Thank you for the pictures

Was the turret rmoved for to form part of the defense? And I would love to know the story behind the Panzerfaust picture too. Thank you for the pictures its a burried Panther. although the germans also put tank turrets onto concrete fortifications to use them as gun emplacement. the old one with the Panzerfaust belongs to the folkssturm. Women, old men and children which were sent against the red army when there were almost no soldiers left in april and may of 45. I hope the following helps Volkssturm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
