Award Military Medal WOII Bernard Lawrence Lawley, 6th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment (5050569)

This Warrant Officer was C.S.M. of the left forward attacking Company on the morning of 8th July 1944. By 06.30 hrs, his Company Commander and all Platoon Commanders were wounded or missing and took no further part in the action. CSM Lawley showed great coolness and courage and moving about under very heavy machine gun and mortar fire reorganised the Company. At approximately 08.00 hrs, he was severely wounded in the shoulder and continued in command of the Company for at least half an hour and organised forward fire positions for PIAT's to deal with enemy Machine Gun and sniper posts situated in derelict tanks. He then collapsed. His coolness and leadership under heavy fire and power if endurance when severely wounded setting magnificent example which was particularly needed at this juncture of the battle.
