Gunner Who Scored Many Hits

Leading Aircraftman Arthur Henry Webster was decorated for bravery when he was rear gunner in a Hudson reconnaissance aircraft which fought two Dornier flying boats over the North Sea last March. He kept a cool head during the whole of the prolonged action and used his guns to the best effect each time an opportunity presented itself. He scored many hits on the enemy aircraft and one of the flying-boats was shot down and the other damaged. The maintaining of fire from the rear gin, which had a considerable influence upon the result of the action, required courage of a high order as the aircraft in which he was flying came under heavy enemy fire. Leading Aircraftman Webster, whose father, Mr Arthur Henry Webster, a veteran of the Boer War, lives at 109 High Road, Buckhurst Hill, Essex, is 22 years of age. Webster joined the R.A.F. as a fitter in 1936.
