Should Auschwitz be modernised or should it remain as it was during WWII? http://www.totallyjewish.com/news/world/?content_id=5137
I agree with this statement he Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims, insisted: “Changing the memorial and making it less horrifying and more friendly, having more flowers, trees, parks and grass, is good maybe for an amusement park, but not for a place that is important to teach us what happened.”
It must not be changed, because it will absolutely erase the physical manifestation of the holocaust. It will make the sight pointless
Trying to prettify Black Tourism sites does not work. Leave be. Preserve and modernise the museum, but don't try to pretty it up to protect delicate sensibilities. You don't go there for a nice day out.
I completely agree too. Leave it be. If we want our future generations to understand the horrors that went on there, then there's no point in making it look nice. It just defeats the object.
We don't know what the exact plans are, don't we? Any monument or site needs preventive maintenance or soon or late it will crumble into rubble. How far this will extend I don't know, but I do not believe we will see a squash court in the Zyklon showers, nor a pizza oven in the Crematorium. Perhaps we should wait for more data.
As it is now, the site doesn't look like it did during the war; practically none of the original buildings are standing. If they really wanted to renovate the site they should rebuild some of the structures that were blown up. I say leave well enough alone, but maybe the number of visitors has been declining or something and they feel they have to do something to draw more people in.

Yes, the post-war history of Auschwitz has been chequered:

I agree, surely the horrors that you witness in your visit there is designed to so show you the conditions people had suffered in over 60 years ago. This shock effect of the surroundings is the whole part of the camp's effect. I haven't been myself, but one day I would want to visit its original, not modernised, remains. If some modernisation needs to be done, do so in an unharming manner. Simple restoration doesn't hurt, especially in the crumbling remains scattered around the everlasting memorial. But I only agree with it if it adds to the original intention of remembering the 'true' horrors of the war. David.
I agree with all. Leave it alone. It's a stark reminder of the depths human beings can wallow and infilct such misery.
