The question's in the title. I have a lot of books on British WW2 tanks, but none on armoured cars. For a very good reason - I don't remember (apart from Osprey titles and similar on individual vehicles) ever seeing one, or I'm sure I'd have bought it. Obviously there must be unit histories of AC units, but it's the technical stuff I'm more interested in. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Forty's old one has been a useful Gazetteer. Certainly for when 'Name that vehicle' was the prime reason for hanging about here, but it's no real history, not specifically British, and the reproduction is potato quality. Vollert springs to mind for detailed stuff on the German side. Seem to recall Tankograd have done a few on Staghound etc.? Though maybe more 'In service'. Actually. Pat Ware could be worth a shufti. He might be dry, but it's the sort of thing he would conceivably write on and he likes a bit of niche. Wonder if the relative paucity is down to there only being so much you can say about 'We took a truck/lorry & wrapped some AFV around it' . Seem to have plenty on postwar machines, when it all became a touch more bespoke. More... 'German', you could even say.
Yes - I've got all those (had a fill-the-gaps-in-my-collection session, largely on eBay - when the prices were reasonable! - a few years ago). Trouble is - they're a bit like the curate's egg - good in parts. And, they're ALL I've got . . . But thanks for the suggestion, anyway.
I think Forty's book was what I was thinking of. Someone should do something about this. Pity I'm over here in Canada... There isn't even much that I can see from Osprey.
As others have noted, this is a large gap in the market. Osprey has touched on a couple of types. The Staghound has a number of titles on it and seems to be the most covered type of the cars used by Commonwealth forces. (Being an American type this may be why. However if you're looking for technical books, a Czech company does do English books you may be interested in: WWP Books: Daimler Armored Car Photo Book | Armorama™ WHEELED VEHICLES (2) - WWP Bookshop I've ordered other books from them and had them shipped to Canada for a decent price so shipping to the UK maybe even cheaper and faster.
Hi Chris. Some technical information with info from old manuals but mostly walkarounds. They are designed for the modeling community.
Dear all, A very belated Thank You (apologies!!) to all those who've answered this post - your various contributions are much appreciated. Faute de mieux, I've added George Forty's book to my list of Books-To-Buy (thanks to Von Poop) and I'm in the process of ordering one of those Czech publications to see what they're about (thanks to orwell1984). I can't find any relevant Tankograd books (they seem to be mostly post-war?). Clearly, a gap in the market - any budding authors out there?
Not an author, but a potential buyer We think that my grandad drove armoured cars before and during the war. Lanchesters, Guy, Humber Scout, LRC and possibly M1A1 scout cars.
