Hi, I was wondering if anyone might have some information on 714 AW company RE. My wife is looking for information on her grandfather, who was a Sapper named Harold Arthur Taylor. He served in North Africa and he was also at Stobs camp near Hawick in the Scottish Borders. We have done a lot of searching but with little info being found on 714 AW company. There is very little detail on Stobs camp. We’d be grateful for any help or info Rob
Hi, Has your wife applied for copy service records yet? Do you know if her grandfather served with same unit for the entirety of his service? Often men within the larger Corps were transferred from one unit to another. TNA Kew hold this war diary file at least: Royal Engineers: 714 Artisan Works Company (RE Art Wks Coy) | The National Archives Reference: WO 169/10753 [Middle East] Description: Royal Engineers: 714 Artisan Works Company (RE Art Wks Coy) Date: 1943 July- Dec.
Rob, Try: Homepage - Stobs Military Camp Hawick Scottish Borders and Stobs Camp | Canmore Another AW unit was there: From: Malcolm Bull's Calderdale Companion : S A somewhat unpredictable source states: From: 663 Artisan Works Coy. See: Artisan Works coy Royal Engineers and there are multiple threads on them, though not 714. Search using: "Royal engineers" + "Artisan Works" site:ww2talk.com
