I was searching though the forum looking up RASC 310 Coy as a reference. From his army service records my father who was a Private within this company, was posted to 5th Guards Armoured Division in November 1942.
I know prior to Jun 1944 he was based at Rottingdean in East Sussex, then he embarked UK for Normandy on the 19th June 1944.
He was the driver of a Scammell breakdown truck and I have his Vehicle Shipment Card which shows he sailed on LCT ? 327 .
I also have a copy of the book The Guards Armoured Division by Major General GL Verney, in which it describes the advancing parties had amassed at Pirfleet on the 12th June after which the 5th Brigade left between 16th & 18th June to embarking hards on The Solent.
I also read in another reference that Mulberry became operational on or about the 16th of June.
Could this have been some of the first troops and equipment that disembarked at Mulberry ?
