Army Casualty Lists reported him missing from 16.11.1943 Aegean Theatre, but not presumed dead until a list of 10.10.1945.

Army Roll of Honour 1939-1945 shows born and resided in Derbyshire.

His RA Tracer card has not survived, but these for close service numbers have which will give an idea of when he joined up.

As to where Roy Sanders died the only other 805 Def Regt soldier on CWGC is:
897652 BURNETT Thomas Alexander, Gunner, died 14 Nov 1943, buried in Leros War Cemetery.
Graves from all over Leros were concentrated here after the war & it's possible that Roy Sanders is among the 55 unknown UK soldiers buried here.

16 Nov 43 was the day that 234 Infantry Brigade under Brigadier Robert Tilney surrendered on Leros in a campaign that came to be called Churchill's Folly.

The Battle of Leros is a classic example of how the British should not do war. Having been at war since Sep 39, we had clearly learnt nothing about the Principles of War and the Principles of Defence.
