This is my first post (beyond an intro) and I'm looking to trace the history of the above Sapper. I hope this is the correct place to start. He was step brother to my Father in law and died of Pulmonary TB 22 Sep 44 and is buried in Naples War Cemetery. I understand from the attached record (all that was provided in terms of service record on Find My Past) that after Training (Tng Btn RE?) he Embarked for N Africa and Sicily, was "Taken on Strength" (ToS?) of BNAF and 8th Army after arriving 19 July 43. (Op Husky landing were 10th July). My assumption is that, being from Glasgow he would have been part of 238 Field Company (the County of Renfrewshire FC RE). if that is the case then he would have been in 1st Inf Div. Can anyone help with the other cryptic notations on his record i.e. "1027 D.O. Coy (20/1027.00)"? I also need to find actual evidence that he WAS with 238 FC RE. Any suggestions?
His hospital record is fairly explanatory and I understand from other threads/links here that 22 and 92 Gen Hosp were in Naples at this time but any help understanding the other notations would be very welcome.
Unfortunately, the War Diaries of 238 FC are not digitised and I need to make a visit to TNA at some point.

Thanks for that CL1. I was wondering whether the CWGC info would suffice so thats helpful. Ive just applied for my father in law's service record as it happens (he too was in italy and injured at Monte Camino) but the TNA response - whilst positive -was that it could take up to 12 months due to high work loads!!

Thanks for that Owen. There is also VERY faint pencil text under the "1027 D O Coy etc" line which appears to be 1023 D.O. Coy I have never heard of such units so that's another exploration!!

Indeed ....though ill claim it was a "working assumption" in the light of ignorance of the fact that i had no idea what "D.O.Coy" stood for ! :) And thanks for the tip about X Lists. The acronyms and ciphers are becoming clearer.
