does anyone recognize this place? I guess it could be in Normandy.
Any clues on the back ?
Why do you think it is Normandy ?
Going by openneck battledress I would have said post-war somewhere on the north German coast as it's a fisherman.
Their is an inscription behind the soldier and some of it is visible. Perhaps a better scan of the text will reveal something. The last line appears end with 1901.
Lifeboat man memorial?
Looking out over the sea?
The wavy edged photographic paper would suggest Germany.

Well done Tony, I thought we were a little slow with this one. I tried all different Google entries, but not Hook of Holland.
Well done Tony. I tried for lifeboat memorials but didn't see the Holland one.
(I bet Owen is miffed; he's usually much quicker off the mark, ha ha)
Still trying to find the actual location though.
Location and map on this link:
Just down from the War Museum.
Wow, I'm impressed! I thought he took the photo on R and R in Normandy. Didn’t think about the uniform so much. But Holland makes sense, he was posted there in 1946. Thank you very much for your help!
