I am not sure if I am posting in the right forum. But I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this means.

    Francisco G Gonzalez 36 885 354 Private
    Company L 99th Battalion 474th Infantry Regiment

This is my husbands father. I am doing a family tree and would like any information about this. If anyone is familiar with this please share your information. My husband tells me that his dad never, never talked about the war. But he did know his dad was in it. So any information at all about this battalion, pictures, stories about experiences would be appreciated. Also can you tell by this information what his duties would have been.
    I thank you very much,
    WendyE

    Rank: Private

    Unit:-
    L Company
    99th Battalion

    I hope that helps.

The only thing that baffles me about this is that he's in "L Company," which is a high letter, and the "99th Battalion." The 99th Battalion was a Norwegian-American independent unit assigned originally for operations in Norway. Instead it fought in Western Europe.

The 474th -- and I have to check this -- was made up of disbanded AA units in Italy, to stiffen the 92nd Infantry Division, which suffered a lot of trouble. I have a book on that division, so I will have to check that.
