On this day in 1944 the Warsaw uprising ended with the Poles surrendering after 63 days of fighting which started on the 1st of August with a ceasefire being signed at 2200 local time on the 2nd of October. All this while the Russians watched from just outside the city. One of the many tragedies of the war.
