Another obscure request, but you never know...

The WE for an Infantry Battalion, ref II/233/2, notified 19th May 1943, was subject to nine amendments before being superseded. Amendment No.4 was dated 28th May 1944 and seemingly detailed an alternative transport table, which was to be implemented at the discretion of theatre commanders.

Unlikely I know given the scarcity of amendments, but I was wondering if any other WE devotees had perhaps come across this alternative transport table in their research?

    Cheers,

    Gary

That would be interesting given the rush to get new equipment into front line use for the NW Europe campaign.

Personally, I am looking for amendments allowing for use of carriers other than Lloyd in the Anti-tank Platoon and options for using Truck, 15cwt, Armoured (wheeled or half track) in lieu of Truck 15cwt 4x4.

    Gary,

I stumbled across this old thread. I don't know if we've already talked about it. Anyway, the amendment is contained in WO 32/10400 (Army Organisation - Infantry (Code 14 (N)) - Infantry Battalion - Reorganisation).

    Do you still need it?

    Hello Wolfgang,

Thank you for thinking of me re the above. Yes, I did get WO32/10400 a long time back, which includes a few amendments (and a lot of chaff it must be said). Used in combination with what was found in LAC files and detailed in various editions of PBI, I was able to pull together or 'reconstruct' amendments 1-4 and 6-9, though I've never found a trace of No.5.

I only got the ones contained in that file, amendments Nos. 1, 3 and 4.

Yes, likewise. I think No.2 referred to a jeep replacing the carrier for the Inf Bn CO, when the Bn was part of a Mountain Div, which is mentioned in an early edition of PBI and incorporated into II/233/3.

With so much crammed into amdt No.4 I'm not sure what was left for No.5. I've not done my obsessional deep dive on the tracking the amendments between Apr43 and Nov44 yet, though most of them are evident. It might have been a simple correction as well.
