Hi Thought I would share this diary of 50 mechanical equipment platoon , it's a job to find much on the work they did as you can read they are all over the place...
Thanks for posting. My grandfather served with 868 MEP Coy RE at some of the locations mentioned in the 50 Platoon war diaries and I have included a photo of one of the plaques they made while sitting at a field park at Hannover Airfield immediately after VE Day . I believe my grandfather drove a drot ashore on Gold beach either on D day or D+1. 50 Platoon seemed to have been part of 866 Coy - does anyone have any idea about the orbat of 868 coy?
Hi, new to this site, had been searching for a while and considering the timeframe for this entry - you folk may had moved on...! But here goes: My Fathers exploits during his time in Europe from D-Day+4, I think. He serviced or attached to many units, 'Mechanical' during his time. He'd only passed in 2022 at 96years old. From his 'notes' - he was with '50 Mech Eqp Coy' - under going some 10weeks 'Training'... no idea of subject. But the was assigned/posted to - '68 Mech Eqp Platoon' - too Siegburg, at Wessel - he and a Team built a Bridge on the Rhine, have a photo with some names, then on to Koln... and other locations...!
