The Ust-Usa rebellion started on the 24 of January 1942 in the Lesoreid lagpunkt in the Vorkutlag gulag provice of the Soviet Union. The prisoners with support from the prison commander staged a rebellion capturing the camp and a few towns.

Eventually the NKVD restored control in the area by killing most of the rebels and murdering the ones they had captured after torturing them and making them confess to being part of a Fascist plot to take over the region.

At the time people in the region swear that German spies were dropped by parachute in to the region as a fifth column (not in support of the prisoners) how reliable is this information could it be true or simply just legend?

Has anyone else heard of German plans to drop fifth columnists in to Russia?
