Unknown Item - American?

I have picked up an unknown item at the local car boot sale. I was wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what it is?

It is a canvas/webbing "bag" just over 2 foot 6 inches long, and it has "Cover Spare Barrel M9 - D30674" on both sides. Of course, this is a cover for some sort of heavy weapon's spare barrel but can anyone tell me what an M9 was/is? Weapons are 'not my thing'.

It seems to be of typical American manufacture, and is closed with a couple of the fasteners used on the GI canteen cover (water bottle cover).

Also, it is made in the early US khaki colour. However, it does not have the date or a "U.S." stamped on it, and no sign of it ever having had one.

    TIA

    Thanks Fidelity

I hadn't thought of Canadian. Did you tell by the stock number?

This has no marking at all, no date and no "C" with the broad arrow.

I just put the details into various search engines. It was such a circuitous route I've forgotten how I arrived at the answer :) There was one on sale on e-bay though!
