Could it be classed as PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as "the wrongful appropriation, close imitation, or purloining and publication, of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions, and the representation of them as one's own..

A bit like one of the Bomber sites quoted on here from time to time.

I only did Criminal Law and it could thinly come under Fraud by false representation but my money is on it is more than likely to be a Civil Offence under some obscure Copy right Law like what Peter said rather than Criminal act in itself.

Larry from Lancaster-Archive put a lot of work into the file and now someone is selling the information on CD online. It was copywrighted and dated information. If anyone sees them for sale can you let Larry and the local authorities know.
I think this an appalling breach of trust as I am sure you all will agree. Can we string these people up if we find them? :(

I have to ask if the data has been withdraw from the other forum, why? Those that appreciate this research the most will suffer.

If this had happened to me after years of effort, I would be offering the same info for sale on the same site at a reduced price and donating part, if not all, proceeds to a nominated charity. This way the person who took what wasn't theirs, and offered it at a cost when it was freely available elsewhere, would be hit where it hurts the most - their pocket. That is clearly their motivation and I assume that no amount of moral pressure would make them reconsider.

While understanding the anger felt, I'd concur with Diane's advice (having had some experience of this in past publishing work)...her suggestion would mean decent people still get the benefit of the information, the originator stays on the high moral ground, and who knows RAF Ben Fund or similar may benefit.

There are some technical ways to protect e.g. downloadable pdfs, but they are a bit fiddly and may put off more respectable users than they help. Once info is on the web, it is extremely difficult to protect in a legal sense, unless you are a big organisation with expensive lawyers.
