Just thought I'd throw this into he mix, bit different to the usual what if.

I was watching a program about the Romanov's last night. Part of the program mentioned about the reason they were killed was the troops loyal to the Czar were getting close to making a rescue attempt. Just think what would have happened if they succeeded and reinstalled the Czar, how would WW2 have panned out then?

The Reds in the end won the Civil War, Romanovs or no Romanovs, so if they escaped at the time then they would be captured again some other time. No effect at all on events 25 years later.

Do I read your "What if" to mean that the Romanov's were still a ruling entity at the outbreak of war?

Thats a point. Would they be ruling Russia or merely another displaced royal family at the beginning of WW2?

The communists had control over most of Russia and therefore the ruling family would have been just another exiled royal family in Europe

Yes, but it's a what if............what if they controlled Russia in the same fashion as our Royal Family ruled us, but without the communist influence, I was just thinking what impact would that have had on the 20th century

That is the problem with "what if" they are based upon known history and therefore intoduce a factor of fiction.

    Stop being pedantic.

I think if Nicholas had still been ruling Russia then i really can't see them getting involved with Hitler/Germany in any way unless provoked. He would have learnt his lessons.
