See you have a new section up and coming - which looks very exciting! May I ask what source(s) you will be using for this? And will you be welcoming submissions from veterans? I can see it turning into a unique and valuable resource if you do!
I wil be relying on submissions from veterans! The section will be dedicated to stories penned by veterans themselves rather than as told by someone else. Gerry Chester has kindly agreed to be the first an I am setting up the section just now with his stories first of all to get it all working correctly. At that point I will be keen to get more stories posted.
Okay Lee - good news. My Dad has written an account of Anzio. He doesn't have a PC, but I have it on Word and will see if he wants to submit it. I also know some PC-savvy vets who may well want to contribute and will contact them as well.
You may want to visit this BBC site as it contains exactly what you are after as another resource to link to? http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/ Cheers Ryan
The difficulty with the content on the BBC is copyright though, would you be allowed to use what is effecting their material?
Probably not, but I meant to say one should link to it as it is a similar project. May be worth making contact though? Ryan
I think there would be copyright issues with the BBC material. Another good source might be the 'War Illustrated', published during WW2. Volumes 9 and 10 (was there an 11?) have an 'I Was There' section which I suspect might be out of copyright. Copies are often for sale on Ebay.
Hi all, I have been on BBC WW2 History site a few times doing a bit of research and recently contributed to a couple of research questions, through this a kind gentleman by the name of Tom Canning made contact with me he served with the 145th Royal Armoured Corps in North Africa and Italy where he was badly injured. He gave me permission to use his stories and some photo's of Coriano Ridge cemetery on my website. So I guess the BBC could not have any issues with me with regards copyright...could they? I passd on this forums details to Tom Canning so hopefuly he may well pay us a visit in the near future. Regards Kieron

I would love to have it on the VI Corps site. My father was at Anzio too and I would love to know more and hear more first hand accounts. Please contact me.
The new stories section is now up and running properly and of course I wil be looking for lots of stories to add to the section. Let me know of any submissions you may have that I could add or any resources I could use. the section has a new link on the portal homepage and you can also get to it following the link below Gerry Chester kindly agreed to let me use his stories to test the layout which you can see in the section just now. http://www.ww2talk.com/stories
Would it be worth looking into 'Veterans Reunited' details, part of the National Lottery funding? http://www.nof.org.uk/default.aspx?tc=690&tct=1 and Oral History Project? http://www.oralhistory.org.uk/ and in the US http://www.loc.gov/folklife/vets// (I have details on this, leaflets etc etc here) Cheers Ryan
I've put a request onto the website that I am treasurer of for stories from relatives of members. There are a couple of members who will have memories themselves as they 'joined up' in 46/47 and will have been civvies during the war. I will post any replies I get for us all to enjoy.

I am seeing my Dad this weekend, and will see if he is okay with that and then send you a copy. I will also ask him if he would like to submit it to this site. I am just about to give him a PC, so hopefully he might be browsing this forum, too!

And as I mentioned above will speak to my Dad about his 'bit' as well.

Thanks for replying and I will look forward to hearing from you. I do hope you dad gets his PC. I know he would enjoy reading this forum and others like it. There are quite a few vets who are avid followers now. Nothing like hearing it from the mouth of one of our vets.
