    Hello.

I have a small collection of POW tags, and seem to have quite a few for Stalag 344.

A lot seem to have come up for sale in the last few years, mostly from Europe / Germany.

I have a couple confirmed POW numbers to the Guards in the 316xx / 327xx range. However, a couple, 399xx & 402xx do not match to any servicemen. (I'm hiding last 2 digits with xx)

I'm beginning to wonder that these later numbers are from a stash of un-issued tags...

Any thoughts on this, and what is the highest number you have seen ?

    Alan.

The Stalag 344 was due to the high number of British (about 48,000), which were held there continuously until the end of the war, generally called British camp.
But there were also soldiers of other armies fighting against the Third Reich housed: French, Belgians, Yugoslavs, Greeks and Americans.
So it is likely that these numbers were assigned to such soldiers.
