Hi, Does anyone have any knowledge of South African War Establishments? WET AG 213/4/15 - this was a Brigade Support Company, and the WE the Royal Durban Light Infantry moved onto in June 1944. It was composed of two mortar companies and two 4.2-inch mortar companies. WET AG 213/4/14—Infantry Battalion. I'm particularly interested in the one dated 4 February 1945, which is when RADLI moved to when the Brigade Support Group was disbanded. Apparently, its previously owned 4.2-inch mortars were to be distributed amongst the division's infantry battalions. PS The proposed conversion of two Botha/President Steyn Regiment companies to heavy mortar companies never happened. Gary Kennedy Aixman
I'm afraid I never found anything for South African WEs. It might well be one you've seen, or found the above in, but there is what I suspect would be a very general file on "South African Units : organisation" that you might well have already seen. Thanks both for the replies. Yes, this is from that TNA file which I copied last week. It does have some WE details, some detailed, some proposed. For interest, below is 6 SA Armoured Division WEs as of March 1944.
No match for the WEs, but I can identify the W.O. serial Nos. of post #4 (>64500) in WO 33/1903 (for 1942 to 1944). The ones of post #1 (Nos. 52324 to 53326) are not (yet) listed there. This applies also for WO 33/2223 (May 1944) and WO 33/2224 (August 1946). The units may have been short-lived, at least under that serial.
The WEs from post #4 are from March 1944. The ones in the original post are from March 1945, and by early 1946, most personnel had been demobilised and were back in South Africa. This would explain. why they do not appear. My interest is really just in the infantry support unit organisations.
