I've got all the old smileys, flags etc., in a heap. Problem is, to insert a smiley into a post, the forum needs a text code it can convert. Code:  :Flag: ;) :) etc. Not being a super-genius, I have no recollection what some of those codes might be. I could just make up new ones, but that means smileys in old posts will not be fixed. So... if you spot a post with a bit of weird smiley code not showing as an icon (often between two colons - :xxx: ), link to it here and I'll have a reference to gradually rebuild the smileys. Cheers, ~A
Don't know if this is of any assistance, VP. However, if you click on Terms and Rules (bottom right hand corner of page), it takes you to the 'Help' menu and in there are two lists of codes for smileys and BB codes. Someone naughty has played with the smiley codes, as there appeared to be a more substantial list in there the other day. Wonder who did that? Edit: Another thought. A lot of ww2talk members are also members of other forums, so why not ask some (or all) members to copy and paste the text codes from those other forums to you?
The codes were a mix of general ones, and others unique to here, Steve. It's all got to come from 2T I'm afraid. I hadn't opened 'Terms and rules' at all . That ready reckoner on post codes is great: BB Codes | WW2Talk All there in the post icons too, but I always used to use standard BB code for quotes etc., until the last software introduced a more complex syntax that I never got the hang of.
Ran across this code in of of Slipdigit's posts: should be very similar to the filename. *edit* original image here: http://ww2talk.com/images/emoticons/extra/cowboy_125.gif
Any idea when national flags will be available? I had one in my sig, but I can't find it. May be on me, but any advice would be helpful.
* Ahh, bespoke smileys. Glad the 'Terms and rules' reference was useful! You are doing a grand job, VP...
Deacs was getting the old and persistent issue with BB Code, that certain text/punctuation combinations render as Smilies. A tad out of place in a cemetery thread. Code: :p Renders as: Since this has happened for years, and we've never really done anything about it, I've made a decision to change the code for poking tongue smilies. This'll break the three different ways they could be created before, but solve this little issue from now onwards. So, from now on, rude little tongue out smiley is created by the marginally less likely to happen by accident text code: Code: :-P Colon, Dash Capital P
Sod it. Just spent a while adding most smileys back. Can pick up and add old codes when spotted. Have put most of the more complex ones under 'animated'.
