    Hi Everyone,
    I am new here!

I have one question, I've been searching the internet, books and have asked friends studying history, but I haven't been able to come up with an answer.

What was the largest size (in terms of numbers) did the major nations' armies get to in WWII? (eg. German, Russian, American, British).

I read some where that the german army by 1939 was 3,700,000 soldiers strong. They had 700,000 home defence troops and this was bolstered by another 2,900,000 soldiers from conscription. But those figures were in 1939, before the german take over of many other puppet states, which would have bolstered their numbers considerably.

In one of the posts in this forum, I read that the Russian's Red Army was 10 million soldiers strong!?! Is this actually true? I mean, if they really did have that many, I would have thought they would have been able to easily repel the german invasion in Operation Barbrossa (don't know how to spell the name).

It's also obvious that the American Army was siginifcantly large since they could fight two wars, in Europe and in the Pacific. (btw, did both America and Britian result to conscription?)
