Been to see this Memorial today.
Inspired by Alex's presentation of Soviet memorials I'll take you on a tour.

As you go into the Memorial you read this sobering text.

The names are on panels in the cloisters , by Rank and year of death.

See Panel 68, Eric Calvert's name there.
I'm not sure his Mum & Dad got to see it, I hope they did.
I bit my bottom lip when I saw his name.

In the tower is the key Queen Elizabeth used to open the Memorial.

    We climbed up the tower.

Great photos. Somewhere on my list of 'To Do' visits. Seven of our Old Boys are named on the Memorial.

Sorry Peter, I meant to look for your Dad's name but what with trying to keep my 3 little 'uns under control and taking the names I was after I didn't have chance.
What bay is he on again?
Ok just checked on another thread, Bay 80 isn't it?

    Hi Owen,

Yes, my fathers name is inscribed on panel 80 of the Memorial which I visit a few times a year, just living down the road at Windsor.

The photo is of myself reading a prayer at the service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of the Memorial in October 2003. (The Queen was also there).

A fitting tribute to the Missing of the Royal Air Force.I remember visiting the site many years ago by walking up through the undergrowth of the wood from the road below.A July date, yet it was raining heavily and I was in the area on business.I spent the evening viewing the panels and recognising quite a few names I knew particularly those WAAFs attached to the SOE.

Excellent photographs Owen.It was pleasing to see the Memorial in a good state of repair.

Nice to see it on such a lovely day, Owen. Every time I've ever visited, it's been p***ing down!!!
