If so, i'd like to do a 'Question and Answer' session with them and post it here.
I've already done two similar sessions at the Few Good Men Club, one was a C-130 loadmaster, and the other was 'Chickenhawk' author and Huey pilot Bob Mason, they're post-WW2 but i'd post them here if anybody's interested?

A while back Tiger tank Commander Werner Busse was happy to send me a long letter about his experiences in Russia and Normandy; i just thought there might be some Allied vets who'd be glad to talk too..

Every WW2 website should have someone like Diane to protect us from would-be questionnaire seekers :)

Just one of the many vets on this site

First of all, a hearty welcome to ww2talk.

If you are carrying out research on any one particular subject or even one particular service man/woman then you have indeed come to the right place to find the answers.

Alternatively, if you are just interested in the period 1939 to 1945 then, once again, you have reached the right spot because this site is second to none in the breadth of subjects covered and has, as members, some of the finest ww2 researchers in this country.

I have but one proviso and that relates to newcomers asking veterans to participate in questionaires or to enter into discussion about their individual experiences.

May I first point out that my feelings on this subject are purely personal and I make no claim to represent or speak on behalf of my fellow vets on this site, some or all of whom may have differing views.

After an over-lengthy preamble I come to my major point.

All the vets, including myself, have written thousands of articles about their experiences and have given their views on many controversial subjects.

Before you write to us asking for further information do us at least the courtesy of reading what we have previously written.

If you then have a particular question that you feel has not been answered, by all means enter into the discussion on the site so that we may all benefit from the points raised.

Enjoy your stay and good luck with your research.

    Respectfully

    Ron

You don't appear to be getting too far along with your request - as to where all these stories are from ww2 Vets - try the BBc war series archives - you might find about 47,000 tales of experiences in that conflict - and when you have read them all - do come back with questions - from another one !
    Cheers

Thanks for the thread link Ron, it's very interesting but peoples questions and chat are randomly scattered over 40 pages, whereas i was hoping for something more focussed and chronological.

For example when you were called up at 19, how did you feel, were you glad to be going off to have a crack at Jerry or would you have rather stayed at home doing a job? What was your job anyway, did you like it?
And how did your parents feel about yet another one of their sons being called up? What did the call-up papers say, or was it a telegram?
And did they give you a choice about whether to join the Army, Navy or Air Force? Was the AA battery your own choice?

Oops I'm talking too much, sorry 'bout that..;)

    Spike--

I do realise that reading through 47,000 stories might take a while - so to save time I would ask you to find just ONE story - in two parts which will sum up many WW2 vets experiences in that war - the Title is " From Mold to St Valery - El Alamein to Italy"

All about ONE mans' journey through hell at times - to survive !
    Cheers

I think you will find that some of the WW2 Veterans have been members of this forum for over 8 years and the questions that you want to ask have probably been asked and answered before on here.

All you need to do is a bit of searching via the forums search engine and your questions will be answered.
