To my surprse I've just found out that this place has been turned into a museum. RAF HOLMPTON - Official Website I used to train here in the 90's setting up Communication Equipement called NCRS (National Communcation Radio Systems) on UK wide communication exercises. It was developed during the cold war and was said to be able, with detachments all over the UK, to provide a 'Communications Umbrella' post nuclear strike. I never did work out the math of how that would work and thankfully we never found out if it would. The location alway struck me as weird because everything was underground apart from a small hut/guardroom.
