I've seen numerous bomb disposal records and notebooks, but never seen these signalling codes written down before. 'Mike' was a microphone used to hear if a delayed action fuze was ticking. 'Toby Jug' was the equipment used to 'give a bomb a drink' of immunising fluid, (known as 'beer'), injected into a fuze to dissipate the electrical charge stored within it. 'KIM' was a magnetic clock-stopper for stopping delayed action fuzes. (Anyone know where the name KIM comes from? I assume the 'M' stands for magnetic?) The 'Steam Jenny' was a steam generator to melt the explosives out of a bomb casing. The above pages are in a notebook kept by the family of Sgt Roy Tull of 6210 BD Flight. A bit more about him can be found here - Sergeant Roy Tull, with the RAF Bomb Disposal Squad on the western front, 1944-1945 - TracesOfWar.com
It seems KIM derives from the Kramer Technique (Kramer Immunising Technique) on which theory the magnetic clock stopper depended. Tim
