I am trying to find out more about a plane and crew from 517 Squadron which appears to have been lost on 2nd October 1945 with the crew of 7. All are commemorated at Runnymede I know little other than 517 was a Meteorological unit flying out of South Wales Casualty details as shown on attached attached Thanks
This from....The Price of Peace - C Cummings 2 October 1945 517 Squadron Halifax III. NA248 The aircraft was on a Met sortie and was last heard of in position 46 degrees 30 North /01degrees 28 West. It failed to return to base and no trace of it was ever found. It is though possible that the aircraft suffered structural failure because after a previous sortie the crew reported a loud bang and serious vibration. Subsequent examination did not reveal any cause for the noise or vibration and the aircraft was passed as serviceable.
